We often tend to create God in our own image. Isaiah reminds us that God’s ways are not our ways and His thoughts aren’t like ours either.

Jesus, in today’s Gospel, reiterates this idea. God’s ways defy our logic because in His generosity, He focuses on needs rather than principles.

In the parable, the wage being paid by the landowner was just enough to provide for a family, for a day. Anything less would mean the family had to go hungry for a meal. Hence a full day’s wage was paid even to those who came late, as it was not their fault that no one employed them!

This tells us how a generous God put the Gentiles at the same level as Jews who had faithfully followed God’s Law for centuries.

Paul is in a quandary because life and death are both a gain for him. He chooses life so as to serve others, thus bearing greater witness to Christ.

God is still looking for labourers... Are you willing to work in His vineyard?
