To be chosen is to be called for action or mission by the one who chooses us. Paul reminds the Ephesians of the aspects of their calling. They were chosen to “hear the word of truth” in order that they “exist for the praise of His (God’s) glory”. But what really matters is that they have been “sealed with the Holy Spirit”, the “first instalment” of their “inheritance” – in other words, a chance to foretaste the promise of heaven here on earth.

Jesus explains the four attitudes a disciple must have:
a) Avoid hypocrisy
b) Be honest for everything will be revealed
c) Do not be afraid of being persecuted for the truth
d) Trust God for every hair on our heads is counted

Through Baptism and Confirmation, I have been chosen to be a witness to Christ. Do I have the ‘attitudes’ that reflect my calling?
